As you might have read already, I'm a strong proponent of Zonegran over Topamax. Topa never created any mood stabilization and it increased my depression somewhat. The side effects were a bear to deal with every day, and it just wasn't worth the weight loss (I did lose 16 lbs, but it stopped eventually).
Zonegran has been the best mood stabilizer I've ever been on. It has incredible anti-depressant qualitites too, at least for me. I really haven't felt this good in many many years! I know of course this won't happen for everyone, for we all have different chemistries, diagnosises, drug cocktails...all I can tell you is what is happening to me - and what is happening is GOOD.
I'm still having the same weight loss effect as the Topamax...actually even more so, because I'm feeling so much better (no tingling hands/feet/face/lips, no sandpaper eyes, no dizziness, no sleepiness, no constipation, no blurred vision, no acne, no itchy scalp, no duuuuhhhhhhh - what's my name??, and on and on) that I'm exercising daily now and wanting to eat a lot better. It supresses my appetite and I get full a whole lot quicker, just like when taking Topamax.
I take 200mgs at night and tapered up 25mgs every week. The only side effect I had was some initial sleepiness.
Hope this helps,
Sooshi
