Same happened to me on Sinemet and Modopar. Although they had a definite acute effect on mood, my memory was horrible [short term]. I wonder if the dopaminergic agent have an indirect or secondary anticholinergic mechanism, and if this is what causes the memory and retrieval effects; hence cholinergic agents being used in memory problems and sometimes to balance the effects of TCA's.
For me they have a definite quieting and calming effect [the dopaminergics that is] and attention is better too. Maybe those who are experimenting with these agents should consider adding something like Aricept or Reminyl in small doses and see what happens.
I came across a very interesting article that suggests that cholinergic as well as noradrenergic and dopaminergic systems are defected in ADHD/ADD individuals and that drugs that target these systems simultaneously will have a definite impact. Quite often Methylphenidate and d-amphetamine help acutely with attentional and behavioural problems but affect somewhat negatively on short term memory and other cognitive functioning.
Be very interested to hear about anyone who is on the psychostimulants and a central cholinergic agent..........
