I think electric blankets are now considered a bad idea, and out-of-date, because of the question of whether they induced cancer. However, the type of electromagnetic current- the frequency, mainly)- is different in TMS, and I believe animal studies concluded that there was no increased risk of cancer. Like most things, we probably won't know for sure for quite a few years.
It's my understanding that under normal (non-depressed) conditions, our hippocampuses, and possibly other brain areas such as the medial orbito-frontal cortex. produce several thousand new neurons each day, and that this is vital to remain in a non-depressed (normal!) mood state. SSRI's are supposed to do this, at least initially, and I am assuming that returning to a non-depressed state, particularly with the added BDNF, allows regrowth of neurons to begin to occur naturally. I* had a discussion about this with Dr. Hutto, but cannot recall if I have seen it in a research paper.
It's wonderful that you feel that it is working so well! Can you tell us more about exactly where you place the coil, how many pulses you give, and at what intensity (amps) and frequency (Herz). How often do you do this? Do you take "holidays", or do you do it every day?
