Help -- I was on Celexa 30 mg for several years to control my panic attacks with no side affects and all was well. I started going through menopause and the Celexa wasn't working, the panic attacks showed up. My panic attacks are such a horrible experience. It is more than I can handle when I have one (mine are not anxiety related). I am 40 years old. My doctor started me on Effexor XR and I was singing the praises of this medication. After she increased my dosage up to 150 mg., I started having physical symptoms. I could handle the dry mouth and constipation, but I started having severe neck pain and then I had a severe kidney infection, which I hadn't had one of those in 12 years. The doctor seemed to think the symptoms weren't related because she was so glad to see me not having a panic attack in her office. After treating the kidney infection, she split of the Effexor to 75 mg in morn and 75 at night. After the infection cleared up, 2 days later I was back in the same boat with the same severe neck pain and my kidneys were hurting again. My doctor wanted me to see a phychiatrist and I couldn't believe she said that. My problems are not from depression or anxiety. I will have a panic attack for no reason whatsoever. I have woken up in the morning having one -- those are the worst. She reluctantly started taking me off the Effexor and put me on Zoloft. I am now to 75 mg of Effexor and on a starter pack of the Zoloft. I need to know if anyone out there has experienced these same issues and what else to do.
