Did your doctor also test for Hashimoto's thyroiditis? It's a test to see if your body is producing antibodies against your thyroid hormone. It is extremely common in middle-aged women. I have it myself and have several friends who have it. I had all of the symptoms of low thyroid (fatigue, cold all the time etc.) My doctor ran a TSH test and it came back the low side of normal. She was certain that I didn't have any thyroid problem. I begged her to give me a referral to an endocrinologist. She did and he made the diagnosis and put me on thyroid hormone. A simple antibody test would have told my gp that but that's another story. I don't know if this condition pertains to you, but it might be worth checking into.
