Ativan instead of Xanax?

From the last follow up to my last post, I got the feeling I should be trying out Ativan instead of Xanax XR, which is what I'm currently on. Does Ativan have an extended release dosage?
How does this drug differ chemically and reactionally from Xanax? Might I feel more social? What is the general response in comparison to Xanax....Thanks
