I've used clorazepate dipotassium (Tranxene) in the past and found it to be ungodly weak. I began at 15mg per dose, which (depending on which chart you look at) should provide the anti-anxiety equivalent of anywhere from 0.375mg to 2mg of Klonopin. It felt closer to the lower end of that spectrum for me. Then again, I'm not the best case example as I require 12mg Klonopin per day, which as I'm sure you know is very high. Several times I took rather large doses of the Tranxene to see if I could better subjectively judge its effects; 300mg felt similar to 10mg Klonopin to me (perhaps more like 2mg for a more "normal" person, lol), but much sleepier. Perhaps closer to 200mg Valium (or once again, for "normals", lol, about 10-20mg Valium).Also, clorazepate is notorious for its eratic absorption -- i.e., sometimes a dose will work just fine for you, but take that same dose, under the same conditions another time and it may not have any effect at all. Or it may take two hours longer to kick in.
Nothing beats Klonopin for me, in any area -- duration of effect, lack of tolerance, relatively low abuse potential, no mind dulling/cognitive deficit, and the pills even taste good... kinda minty sweet. <g> Xanax is next in line for me, with its disadvantages being frequent dosing (though Xanax XR has taken care of that) and rapid tolerance. Going down the list from there, I'd say Dormicum/Versed, Serax, Ativan, Mogadon, Paxipam, Centrax, Rohypnol, Halcion, Lexotan, Valium, Dalmane, Librium, ProSom, Tranxene and Doral.
