I think it makes a great deal of sense to correct any thyroid issues before undergoing a course of ECT. Because thyroid dysfunction is very often associated with and sometimes causal of depression, one would want to optimize the therapeutic potential of ECT by making sure that it is as close to nominal as possible. It's pretty much common sense, I guess.
