I don't think this would be considered a placebo effect, but the NIMH noticed something a long time ago about the mood states of their patients upon admission into their program. Most new patients experience an observable brightening of their mood and outlook during the first 2 weeks that looks a lot like an improvement in their depression. I think it is the anticipation of a cure that causes this. Most of the time, these patients are fully aware that they are not being given an active drug. This was the case with me. It was a huge relief to think that I was about to be cured.
