> Has anyone ever heard of taking adderal with prozac- ? I am confused that ppl with ADHD would take a drug w/ amphetamine's. And I am wondering if adding that would make me a little more alert. I always have to have coffee all day or i am totally tired and dont even want to talk....Or, should i add wellbutrin to the prozac??? I read these posts and get more confused...
> Shello there, chemist here...yes, i have heard of people taking amphetamine for ADHD, and also have heard of people taking prozac and adderall. in people with ADD/ADHD, studies have shown (to borrow a phrase) that, in what is known as a ``paradoxical reaction,'' the addition of a stimulant actually makes these folks calm and more focused. if a ``normal'' person ingests ritalin, focalin (one of the enantiomers of the drug in ritalin), amphetamine (adderall or dexedrine, usually), or some other stimulants such as provigil or strattera, they get very ``speedy,'' unfocused, and shaky, to name a few effects. one of my diagnoses is ADD - although i, my prescribing doctor, and my therapist question it - and one of the medications i take is dexedrine. aside from wordy posts on PB, it appears to calm me down or, at least, focus my spastic energies in a creative way (usually): no grinding of teeth or 25-mile running binges, no trouble with 6-8 hours of sleep (although aided by xanax). as for wellbutrin, i have no personal experience, although i have read on this board mixed reviews, and i do recall that overall, it is rather activating. so yes, not uncommon and, some would say that children especially are being overprescribed (ritalin, in particular), although i won't go down that road other than to bring it to your attention that all ages and sexes are targeted. all the best, chemist
