One thing to keep in mind is that tricyclics have little in the way of discontinuation syndrome. SSRI discontinuation is often harsh enough, and pdocs naive enough about this fact (I would use another term, but I think you get my drift) to lead to indefinite use of these drugs: because, you see, SSRI's aren't addicting in any sense of the term, so worsening of condition must be the depression coming back.These factors do tie in nicely to monetary interests. But that is only a coincidence.
