Paxil was the first, and only antidepressant I ever used, until now. I was on Paxil for a few years ago, startng about 8 1/2 years ago. At the time, I had just stopped drinking (sober now for 8 1/2 years now YA HOO!), gave up my 10 cup a day coffee habit and, don't laugh, stopped my dependence on Sudafed (surprising how addictive those little beggars are - I took Sudafed every day, three times a day for years and years - but I sure had a lot of energy!). Paxil worked extremely well for me, without even having to increase the dose. I never felt flat, and the anxiety I had been experiencing (likely from too many stimulants, booze and not eating), was gone. Tried Paxil again just last fall, and it just didn't work the second time around (this could well have been because I have been significantly iron deficient for many months now). Prozac caused me severe emotional anguish (lasted only two weeks on it and had to stop). Effexor XR, which I was on for 6 months, until 1.5 weeks ago, left me flat - apathetic, unmotivated- as well as extremely nervous and apprehensive for no good reason. I weaned off Effexor for a two week period and have been put on Celexa. I would have preferred nothing, but the doctor was not keen (or not familiar enough with) on natural remedies (Sam-e, Rosavin), and I felt I need something to counteract the effects of the Effexor as well as to counteract the emotional side effects I am experiencing from a recent Depo Provera shot. So, I am hoping that the Celexa will bring me out of the Effexor and Depo Provera induced fog of apathy, lethargy and apprehension.
