high blood pressure on Effexor

My blood pressure has gone up since I started Effexor XR 37.5 mgs. I am also taking Triphasil birth control. Has anyone had their blood pressure increase since taking Effexor? I used a blood pressure monitor that a co-worker brought into work, and it read 136 over 93! That's high! I'm hoping there is something wrong with the machine. I recently had a full physical about a month ago, just before I started Effexor, and it wasn't nearly that high.
I'm going to the doctor this Friday to get it professionally checked!
