My experience with Effexor XR has been terrific. And I've been on and off it twice. The withdrawl is manageable if you go slow.

If you really don't feel you're depressed, you may want to wait on this, though, or try an AD with less baggage attached. Like lexapro, say. I say baggage because some people definitely have nasty withdrawls and knowing that would be an added pressure starting a drug.

I wonder if your counselor is leaning towards meds because they feel your thought process is an obsessive loop. There's no question that some antidepressants will help with this. I found Prozac miraculous in this respect. I had an eating disorder at the time and would not have characterized myself as "depressed". I was, however, absolutely paralyzed by obsessive thinking.

Just some stuff to think on.
