In reply to Neurontin - a bitter sweet med, posted by BorgMan on September 27, 2004, at 12:40:18
> I take 1200Mgs of Neurontin per day. I have for over a year. For me, the drug amplifies my other meds and then it neutralizes those same meds! So I have to adjust the Neurontin every week to open up its filter to allow the other meds to come through! It drives me nuts! Has `anybody else experienced this? Thus my relationship with Neurontin is bitter sweet. I tried to go off of it recently and freaked out after a couple of days.
>I take 1600mg at once for a class that meets twice a week. I've got some extensive experience with neurontin dosing from having been on it two years ago in my benzophobic doctor's attempt to avoid klonopin.
Now I see a doc who's about to put me back on klonopin, but wants me to wait it out for another couple of weeks to prove lexapro won't fix my social anxiety+depression.
So in the meantime I am using leftover Neurontin from one of my old pdocs from a year ago and I'm not telling him (all he'd say is "no, wait, we need to see how lexapro is doing" or think I'm a druggie anyhow, which would mean no klonopin in the future).
If I don't use it, here's what happens:
1. In a seminar class where participation means I pass the class, I can't talk
2. If I try talking, my voice is so stressed it's painful
3. I talk as though I'm literally about to cry of the anxiety, and people notice this.
4. I sweat profusely on my face and blushthis all goes away with a simple dose of klonopin, but I had to switch docs and you know how it goes, one med at a time, wait, wait, wait.
