Since you mentioned the cost of these meds being so high, I myself would stay away from Effexor. I know it is prescribed for generalized anxiety disorder and depression, but the withdrawl is not something you should experience when paying such a high price for meds.Effexor didn't do much for me, but make me lazy, not much ambition,...I am now in the process of getting off of it and it's the strangest feeling, not a good one. Ask his doc if maybe he could try something with less withdrawl like Paxil. I had good responses to paxil for bipolar, anxiety, social phobias, but it seems that every med I was on so far, you reasch a plateau, and get no better from there. I guess you just get used to the med that it has no more effects on you. I am now on Klonopin along with Luvox, and the trileptal. I seem to be having success with this combo so far, (it's been 3-4 months now) But each person is different. It WILL be a long and trying experience. It is like a mix and match meds game. Until they find the right combo for your husband, hang in there. It will be trying, but there's hope, you'll see.
If you don't mind me asking, Is it that you have no med insurance or no prescription plan?
I think there are some plans out there thhat might be somewhat helpful.
Give me a few days and I'll try to see if I can find them again
