In reply to Xanax like drinking?! Post partum depression meds, posted by AJsmommy on October 5, 2004, at 18:58:05
CONGRATULATIONS on being a new mom! I hope your baby is healthy!
Hi. I truly hope you are getting through this most difficult time. I know first hand that it is straining and may seem impassible at times. Remember your baby needs you.
I dont really remember how I made it through my PPD. With the help from my parents, I guess.
My Pdoc & my OB/GYN insisted(!) that I take an SSRI during my pregnancy mainly to protect me against Post Pardom Depression. But I didnt. Have you been on antidepresants before?>>in the states do they perscribe anything for post partum depression?
<<I know ssri are comonly prescribed for PPD. I dont know what else.>> Can anxiety meds help with depression, like benzos.
<< Sometimes. I think it depends on what youre dealing with (anxiety, depression, obsessions...)
Sometimes anxiety causes depression or vise versa. A good doctor can help figure where the "problem" stems from. There should be NO delay in any dr prescribing appropriate meds for you! You have been diagnosed with manic depression, anxiety, social anxiety, panic attacks, and an anger disorder. DOES YOUR PHYSICIAN KNOW THIS?
You say the Dr. are reluctant to perscribe you anything. Maybe you could try to be insistive. Let them know your psychiatrist in the states wanted you on kolonopin.
Maybe you could try the group therapy. It might help.?
>>benzos are like drinking. Is that true?
<< No. Benzos are not like drinking. Alcohol and benzos work on the same part of the brain. But not the same way.Best wishes,
Cindy
