In reply to SSRIs - Helpful for Social Anxiety ?!, posted by Ted Brosnan on October 10, 2004, at 12:35:25

Of all SSRIs, Paxil is probably the most recommended for social anxiety. However, Klonopin and Nardil are more effective in the literature and actual experiences. The problem with Nardil is that despite being a true social phobia killer (especially the old Nardil) the side effects, though somewhat overstated, are quite serious.Everybody's different. I wouldn't recommend Prozac from my own experiences, since it is rather activating, but there may be people who have been helped by it. Remember, if social phobia is your only issue, there are a variety of meds that have proven very helpful. You have options!! Here is a list, in no particular order:
Nardil
Klonopin
Xanax
Amisulpride (good adjunctive med)
Zyprexa
Paxil
Parnate
Zoloft
Neurontin
Pregabalin (or so I've read)
Picamilon (also better as an adjunctive med)
Tianeptine (good add on)
Ativan
Mirapex
Buprenorphine (beware possible addictive qualities)
Perduretas (extended release codeine - again not recommended if leads to addiction)Honestly, you may find a great med on your first shot, which would be wonderful. But you may also need to experiment with various combos before you find the most compatible ones. Good luck.
Hello. Just wondering if anyone has had success or otherwise with a SSRI to treat social anxiety?!
