Antipsychotics and exercise

Posted by mmerrynick on October 15, 2004, at 11:52:08

I am a diagnosed schizoaffective. I take lthium, risperdal, navane and celexa. I am also a tournament tennis player. all the warnings of the medications say to watch for overheating when exercising, or it says they prevent sweating. I have played vigorously in the past, but am very nervous about playing vigorously now. I have even considered consulting a sports medicine doctor but don't know if he could help, as they do mostly sports injuries. I also considered consulting the pdocs at Langley Porter (UCSF) where I had a psychiatric consultation in the past, but don't know if they would know in detail the effects of vigorous exercise with these medications. Is anyone out there a vigorous exerciser who takes these medicines? If so, can you give me some advice. My medical doctor of course told me to drink plenty of fluids (gatorade) and take breaks, which I do. And if I feel chilled or disoriented to stop. But I am wondering if there is a temperature gauge or time limit I could use. I am 49 years old and female
Thanks for any help!
