I think it is quite unfortunate that your doctor won't let you try a benzo. Years ago I was also a heavy pot user and drinker, but this didn't seem to disturb my doctor and he was the one that suggested using Klonopin as an add on to antidepressants for anxiety. This was so I wouldn't have to take such high doses of antidepressants for my anxiety problems. Also, I have been taking Klonopin 1-1.5 mg a day for about a year and a half. And actually on the weekends when my stress is lower I often don't take it all and have no withdrawal effects. I have never felt addicted to Klonopin or needed to up the dose. I've tried so many drugs, and I can't seem to find anything to help with my depression, but honestly I am so thankful that my doctor suggested this drug to me. It has made a huge difference on my anxiety. I was lucky to find a pdoc that is open to using benzos, beacuse I was too afraid to ask. He gives me only a month's supply at a time, because I have been suicidal a couple of times in the past. I know it is hard to find a new dcotor that you can trust, but if your doctor doesn't seem to be listening to you (or trust you for that matter), and is bent on keeping you on a drug that YOU know is not working, you really might want to consider finding someone else. I know that is easier said than done.
I wish you luck.
