I know what you mean about the experimentation angle. It just seems like they really don't know enough about the effects of meds on pregnancy. I know the anticonvulsants are harmful, especially Depakote and Tegretol. I'm on Trileptal and Celexa. I was looking up info on the web today of BP meds and pregnancy. I found a lot of conflicting info or info based on a few case studies. There was a lot of "we don't THINK it will cause problems" or "it will probably be OK". I'm not willing to pin a child's life on "probably OK". My husband and I have been going back and forth on this for years. We finally decided on adoption for both the baby's sake and mine. I don't want to risk a relapse and I figure I'm a prime candidate for postpartum depression. This recent pregnancy scare made me think about it again though. I desperately want a child. I work at a school and so there are tons of young mothers and just as many grandmas who work there. Just about every week someone is bringing their baby to show off and there is at least one baby shower each year. I'm happy for all of them but I want a baby and a family too. The road to adoption is long and full of uncertainty. I guess that would be true of a pregnancy too. But at least you know there will be a baby in your house after nine months.

Anyway, I really don't think we know enough about psych meds to determine which ones are safe and which ones are not. I'm not sure what to do. I for sure don't want to try to get pregnant until spring when I'm usually feeling better. This is my worst time of year until about January.
