Lexapro is a sister-medication of Celexa and similar in formula. (?)
Here are the differences I have found from personal experience:
Lexapro = Best SSRI I have ever taken for depression/SAD (been on almost all of them).
Least amount of side effects. Helps moderately with obsessive thoughts. Of little-no help for (my) anxiety issues, but works wonders for my SAD.
Celexa = worked well for OCD-type thoughts & behaviors. It worked sufficiently for depression/SAD. "Pooped-out" sooner than Lexapro, but worked better for any anxiety issues. Quite substantial increase in appetite while on it.
Those are the main differences I noticed. Really, I think they are both good AD's. Subjectively I think Lexapro superior in terms of efficacy (for depression) and lack of side effects.
Best,
L.
