Based on his respect for my knowledge in this area regardles of my qualifictions, combined with his considerable empathy for his patients.
I also have had a LOT of problems with serotonin meds in the past and it has taken me about three years to get to a point where he as my GP is prepared to let me do the research, he will listen and if he feels comfortable with it he will let me trial it so long as give it a fair trial and don't expect things to change over night.
The only thing he WONT do is prescribe stimulants even though my appointment with him yesterday actually reaulted in him agreeing that my hypothesis of if EVERYTHING else fails, a stimulant for a SET period of time (we have something in mind and a reason for the hypotheses) would be something to suggest to a pshychiatrist.
I forget the amount of times i have been told in the past to change doctors because things weren't happening as fast as i would like but i didn't because i figured if you can gain a trust with each other and display intelligence and responsibility, every person be it doctor, be it teacher be it manager, wilol eventually be prepared to listen, and thats all these GPs need to do.Stop thinking of their patients and listen to them. I have managed it through patience and intelligence, but it wasn't easy i assure you.
