Hi,
Perhaps the problems you experienced were due to the atomoxetine acting as a partial kappa agonist.....
'The major human metabolite of atomoxetine (4-hydroxyatomoxetine) was tested against a panel of receptors and enzymes, and was found to interact with the mu, delta, and kappa-opioid receptors based upon studies involving both binding and functional assays. 4-hydroxyatomoxetine was determined to be a partial agonist of the kappa-opioid receptor.'
Kappa agonists are known to cause mental distress/dysphoria. Kappa opioid agonists have been used as analgesics but 'their development was eventually discontinued due to central side effects such as sedation and dysphoria.'Have you ever tried desipramine? Perhaps it would be better than atomoxetine if your pdoc won't prescribe a stimulant. With desipramine it's useful to start with a low dose and increase gradually to minimise side effects.
