Hi,
It is my belief that people should be made aware of the potential for serious side effects from their medication. Doctors who tell their patients that a drug is 'safe' are essentially lying to them because no drug is completely safe. All drugs have risks and many of the side effects may as yet be unknown.
Patients can only give valid informed consent to receive a drug if they have been carefully informed about the risk of side effects.
I am not 'anti-med' by any means because I believe that it is useful to have a wide range of medications on the market. Accurate information about the potential risks and benefits of a drug should always be provided before a prescription is written.
It is important to take into account a patients attitude to drugs and information about non-drug treatments should be given if such alternatives are available.Regards,
Ed.
