Effexor xr Nightmares

I am taking 150mg of Effexor XR once a day. If I am late on a dose or skip a dose I have terrible nightmares and have a hard time waking up in the morning. My head throbs and feels like it weighs 100lbs! This used to happen if I missed more than one day but now I am starting to notice it more often. Is this normal???
