Is AMBIEN a hallucinogen?

I took 10mg of Ambien last night for the first time in several months and I felt like I was tripping. I had taken Ambien a few times before and I don't remember anything strange, it just completely knocked me out.
But this time it took me a while to fall asleep and things started to get really weird. It's hard to explain how I felt, just very odd like I was living the book that I was reading. The only time that I have felt anything like this before is when I took mushrooms.
Anyone else have a weird experiences w/Ambien?
