I always thought that ADs (particularly SSRIs and TCAs) had some effect on metabolism (slowing down effect) which results in weight gain for some. I am currently taking a TCA, and, without changing my eating habits (actually I was eating significantly less than usual, which wasn't much to begin with), I have gained 6 or 7 pounds in a month. That's disgusting, and one of the reasons (although certainly not the main one) that I will likely not continue with the TCA.

I hope somebody else answers the question. I am also curious to know what causes the weight gain.
