An unusual drug: Pirlindole

Posted by ed_uk on December 15, 2004, at 8:44:54

Hi,

Pirlindole is a Soviet antidepressant. It *may* be available in Russia, Slovakia, Portugal (Implementor) and Argentina, I'm not entirely sure. Pirlindole is also known as pirasidol, pyrazidole, pirazidol and pyrlindole.

Like moclobemide, pirlindole is a reversible inhibitor of MAO-A... but unlike moclobemide, it also appears to inhibit the reuptake of monoamines (serotonin and possibly norepinephrine as well). I couldn't find any reports of it causing serotonin syndrome.

I looked at past psycho-babble posts but only found one person who'd taken pirlindole. Have you?

Ed.
