Do you mean mood stabilizers? Neuroleptics are antipsychotics eg. Haldol, Risperdal etc.

In general, mood stabilizers seem to be easier to stop than ADs because the withdrawal symptoms tend to be milder. So, I don't think you would be stuck with them at all. What concerns me is that your depression seems to have been triggered by anxiety, I would expect an MAOI to be more effective for you than lithium. Also, I am concerned that your lack of motivation when you stopped going to lectures at university may have been related to an SSRI- were you taking an SSRI at that time?

Lithium is generally more likely to produce physical organ damage than most ADs eg. it can cause kidney damage, thyroid damage etc. Much of the harm done by antidepressants is of a neuropsychiatric nature.
