I'm bipolar and it's the best mood stabiliser I have used. One drawback ... I lactate so then I have to stop for a while and restart. But other than that (which is bad because my breast get very sore) it would be my drug of choice. It has a long half life so sometimes I take it every second day. Also at such a low dose i don't have to worry about any movement disorders.
So as a result I use Trileptal and klonopin as my main mod stabilisers. I think there is a med I could take so I wouldn't lactate, but my PDOC says it's not safe. Sigh.
