Sometimes the best thing we can do for ourselves is to let go of trying to keep everything under control. Going to hospital is not a sign of weakness or that you have given up, it simply is a safe place away from all the stressors of family life and get you back on your feet again.
It is very possible that your father says mean things because he is frightened and feels helpless to watch his son suffer. If you feel like you need a safe harbor in order to get your meds adjusted, simply walk into any ER. It need not be a drama, just walk in.
