In reply to taking both Zoloft and Lexapro, posted by pkatt on January 14, 2005, at 0:10:08
> I have anxiety disorder with just a little bit of depression. I have tried about everything out there. Lexapro makes me anxious and intolerant of caffiene, chocolate or anything that is stimulating. Zoloft works great for the anxiety but kills my libido and makes me really tired. I am now on a small dose of each (Lexapro in the a.m. and Zoloft at bedtime). It makes me kinda nervous taking 2 antidepressants. Has anyone been prescribed this combination before? How did it work out in the long run? Thanks for any info I can get.
Have you tried anything other than SSRIs, such as Remeron, trazodone, nortriptyline, or an atypical AP? To me, using an agent like this in conjunction with an SSRI makes more sense than using two SSRIs together. SSRIs typically stimulate all of the serotonin receptors, of which there are about 16 different ones, but of these, only a few, such as the 1A receptor, are desirable targets from a therapeutic viewpoint. Most of the drugs I mentioned will blockade the serotonin-2A receptor that is associated with anxiety, agitation, and insomnia, and which SSRIs can sometimes make worse by stimulating. Blockading the 2A receptor will also tend to reinforce the positive effects of stimulating the 1A receptor.Todd
