I came away from my appointment with my pdoc feeling very good.
Tow weeks prior, I was on only 100 mg Lamictal, when I had 7 days of paralyzing anxiety. I took Geodon to get through it, and it worked like a charm. But at my pdoc's, we concurred this is not a long-term solution. We also discussed the failed trial of norepinephrine. Discussing various scenarios, including the fact that I might be taking a trip overseas(no pdoc readily available there if something in my head goes wrong), we decided on:Lamictal 200mg
Desipramine 100 mg, to start
Klonopin, .5 BID, PRN--to be used only if I again find myself paralyzed with anxiety.I am very hopeful, especially after reading up on desipramine some more last night. Like clomipramine, it also can block 5HT2a, the one I still hope is the antianxiety agent that works for me--but it less cholinergic, and the focus on norepinephrine may mean more activation and less sexual SE. Perhaps less weight gain. And Remedyfind.com posters rated it very highly, though of course I always take that with a grain of salt...
I imagine the norepinephrine blast could help with energy and cognition, but possible cause agitation too? But two days on it---this sounds silly---but I feel like I go to bed with a calm smile, and woke up calm. Obviously most of its effects lie way ahead, but my initial response is SO encouraging.
And I have Klonopin just in case....I am curious to try it, but I will wait until I have a nasty day of anxiety, which I am sure will happen. Right now, either the Geodon is still in my system, or the desipramine is quelling the anxiety.
Noone by chance knows of a site where desipramine's actions are mapped out other than the Dr. Preskorn's charts?
