hey! One of my friends just stopped taking risperdal, and I took it briefly. Based on my experience and what I've read in clinical studies, it seems that risperdal is one of the harsher "atypical" anti-psychotics; its more likely to cause things like akathisia, tremor, anxiety, hormonal weirdness, and such than most of the other atypical anti-psychotics (clozapine is harsher than risperdal--relatively high risk of seizures, weight gain, drooling, etc., but low EPS profile). The best comparison I found was in a study where the authors concluded risperdal's side-effects were kind of like lower-end doses of haldol (haloperidol), whereas other drugs such as zyprexa and abilify tended to have fewer side-effects traditionally associated with antipsychotics, though they had their own problems (inducing mania, etc.). Risperdal has also been the cause of at least one successful malpractice suit (the patient won) against a shrink because of severe tardive dyskinesia resulting from use of the drug.
