A few years ago there was a discussion about the beneficial effects of augmenting ADs with Naltrexone. The usual dose for blocking opiates and alcohol treatment is 50mg, but the augmentation dose for depression back then was usually 25mg.
Since this time, LDN has become popular for the treatment of various things, but principally MS. The idea is roughly this I think. Between 2am and 4am we produce our daily quota of endorphines and a low dose of naltrexone blocks the receptors during this process, thus releasing more for the rest of the day. Its apparently beneficial for the auto-immune system (although there's so much said about the immune system I get wary of claims).
It seems like this approach might be beneficial for depression, especially as many people are finding opiates helpful, when used carefully.
Any ideas?
