In reply to Should I ask sleep doc for Xyrem?, posted by jerrympls on May 20, 2005, at 1:54:21
Hi Jerry, I was too late to respond to your post. How did it go. What I was going to tell you is that I have heard of Ultram being used as a sleep aid. I also think you should ask your doctor for barbituates if that is what you think you need. You have already proved that you are trustworthy with meds.
If the doctor responded the way you thought he would i would have said "well no, we haven't tried everything. We haven't tried these things. You may be willing to give up, but I am the one who may lose his job because I can't get enough sleep. Your job is secure. So let's see what we can come up with!"
Have you ever gone to sleep clinic overnight?
I know you suffer really badly from insomnia. I hope you find some relief out there.
I hate specialist. The psychopharmacologist I saw said that ECT was the only answer for me. I said "No, I won't have it". Turns out my Advair asthma inhaler was causing a big part of my depression and all of my irritability! I am writing him a letter. He is the specialist. He should have known that a corticosteroid can make depression worse. I knew it but had been on one for over 10 years that I never thought of it. If it hadn't been for CK1 posting, I would still be in misery. I'm not in great shape, but I am a hell of a lot better than I was.
Fight Jerry.

> I see my sleep doc for the second time tomorrow to - hopefully - find a sleep med to get me back on track. I'm nervous he's going to throw his hands up and say "You've been on everything...there's nothing else to do." Don't some sleep docs prescribe Xyrem for sleep disorders?? Or am I mistaken? Should I ask him to put me on a barbituate? UGH! I just know he's going to say there's nothing else to try - and I HATE HATE HATE it when doctors- especially specialty docs throw up there hands. I KNOW there's got to be some secret tricks that sleep docs can pull out for hard to treat cases - right?????

> Please someone respond - I have to see him in the morning - around 8:30am. I'll check my email for posts...I hope someone out there has been to a sleep doc and/or knows about Xyrem (sp?). Should I even ask about it??
