I think the reason most men don't get quite so bent about their bodies is because they're mostly brought up to see them as "instruments." (They should be strong enough and coordinated enough to do what's needed. Even boys and men who want to be "buff" aren't worrying so much about how they look, IMO, but that they're perceived as manly and strong.)
A lot of women on the other hand see their bodies more like "ornaments." (The important thing isn't so much what they can do, but if they look good.) Of course, this doesn't apply to everyone and I'd like to believe that it's changing slowly but surely.
