Can Wellbutrin XL cause depression?

Posted by thuso on May 27, 2005, at 15:53:01

I did a search on here and found one post relating to my question from 2002, but it deals only with the SR version. I don't know if the XL version is different in it's time release properties.

My actual question has to deal with Wellbutrin XL causing depression/flattening affect. Has anyone else gotten this from taking Wellbutrin? I started getting it when I began to take 1/2 of the 150mg pill. It really hits me about 1-2 hours after taking it. I finally made it up to the whole 150mg pill and it went away, but I then felt like my old anxious self and as if I wasn't taking any drug. BTW...I'm taking it for anxiety. Now my pdoc is having me experiment with the whole pill cut in half and then taking each half 1-2 hours apart so it doesn't hit me all at once. I've searched and searched on the internet and can't seem to find other people having this same reaction. I know I can't be unique. I just want to hear about other people's experiences. I seem to be very sensitive to drugs (especially SSRI's), so my doc and I are hoping this will work. Can anyone else relate to my experiences or explain the time release aspects of the XL version???
