In reply to Quick Advice On Cold Turkey Efflexor Clonazepam, posted by BillyP123 on July 12, 2005, at 1:54:36
> Due to economic reasons my wife and I have had to stop several meds cold turkey. I have quit 150mg Effexor and 0.5mg Clonzapan (depression, restless leg syndrome) in the past few days. After having lots of typical symptoms (from this website)I have re-ordered Efflexor by mailorder. My question is: should I wait the additional 5 - 7 days for it, or take 100mg Zoloft I already have in the interrim time? Or should I at this point, continue cold turkey? If I am over the worst, I would like to stay off it. I am assuming most of my symptoms are from the Efflexor rather than the Clonzapan though both have pretty bad side effects.I am disabled and on a fixed income and my wife just retired as a children's pastor and gets no retirement or benefits. My deductables on meds just went sway up and we were in a tight spot. I know I could probably get answers by reading here further but I am hoping for a faster answer. I am very impressed with this site and am a first-time visitor.

> BillyP123-hey BillyP123 i know that a pharmacist could xplain 2 u the differance between the effexor and zoloft RE: the chemical makeup. i had a similar problem arise b4 and my doc told me that since they r both 4 depression and anxiety that "I" could substitute for a few days to keep the levels balanced so that the meds. were not completely out of my system and i didnt spiral downhill again. i 2 am on clonzapam and that is mainly 4 the anxiety and i have stopped taking it sev. times and the only side effects i had were my severe anxiety came back....just 4 ur info i would call ur previous doc or a pharmacist and get professional advice b/c each person reacts differently to meds.hope all goes well-take care and let me know how things work out. PS- FYI u can always look into state aid for medicaid and/or medicare for help w/ docs and meds. most states have help when it comes 2 mental illness. it would be in ur gov. section of ur phone book. its worth a try b/c meds r sooooo expensive and there is still no generic for effexor. good luck
