Quicker acting, shorter lasting benzo than Klonopi

Posted by 4WD on July 18, 2005, at 23:28:43

I'm currently using Klonopin for anxiety/fear. Here's the problem. I wake up scared. It usually lasts for all the morning and sometimes on into the afternoon. Occasionally even till bedtime.

If I take .25mg of Klonopin, it doesn't start to help for at least 3 hours. If I take .5 mg it starts to help in about an hour and a half. But if I ccould take something that worked quicker, I could take less. I understand that Klonopin doesnt' reach peak levels in the blood for about 4 hours.

What I"m looking for is a benzo that works quickly, doesn't add to depression and has the least possible potential for dependence. (I know they all can cause dependence but some are worse than others, right?) I don't want to take Xanax - I fear its abuse potential. I don't want any kind of euphoria, just relief of the fear.

I want to take the smallest dose possible of a benzo and I don't like having to take more Klonopin than I need just to get a quicker effect. Some days the anxiety only lasts a few hours and it's a shame to take a drug that is going to kick in just about the time the anxiety would be beginning to lessen on its own.

Any suggestions?

Marsha
