Hi. I was on Effexor for a long time. It did not increase my appetite at all - in fact the opposite. It really helped control my eating disorder (bulimia).I didn't realize it was helping with my hot flashes until I came off it and they got much worse.
One caution, though. It can be hard to get off Effexor.
