TCAs, irritability, and BPD.

Posted by tygereyes on August 12, 2005, at 17:48:17

I have borderline personality disorder and (like many individuals with BPD) become very irritable, agitated, and hostile on tricyclic antidepressants (I have taken Nortriptyline, up to 75 mgs, and currently take 100 mgs Desipramine). I cannot take SSRIs because they worsen my Interstitial Cystitis (bladder disorder), so I am left with the tricyclics.

Do you think that Clomipramine, being chemically different from the TCAs and much more like an SSRI, would be less likely to cause irritability and agitation in someone with borderline personality disorder? Any personal experience or speculation is welcome.
