My GP Rx'd Topamax for my migraines in August, after another 6 day long migraine, while my p-doc was away on vacation. She told me that she wouldn't take me above 50 mg because it's not a first line migraine preventative; even though the optimal dose for migraines, from what I've read, is 100 mg. She started me off at 25 mg., and i'm at 50 mg. now, which is working pretty well - the migraines aren't as bad, and don't last as long, but it could be much better.
Anyway, last time i went to my p-doc, after he got back from vacation, i told him what happened and asked him if he'd take over the Topamax, since she won't take me over 50 mg. He commented that she has me on a really low dose, questioned why she had me on such a low dose, but said my migraines are too complicated, and that he'd be inclined to refer me to a neuro. i won't go to yet another doctor. My GP lost 2 of her partners and farmed out my GYN and dermatology, i go to the p-doc, and a T, and I've been avoiding the dentist. No more doctors!
So, tonight i have another appt. with my p-doc, and i want to ask him again to take over the Topamax. Can anyone help me with compelling arguments to help me plead my case? He usually a really reasonable guy. I want him to take it over because he sees me every month anyway, he'd be more inclined to increase the dose if i need it increased, which means less other migraine meds., and it also means i don't have to go to another doctor, which i won't do anyway. The only side effect I've had so far is just a bit of tingling in my fingers and toes from time to time, which is a normal side effect of the Topamax.
