ativan or most other benzos could be a good call. If you go short-acting, and you feel you should take it for a while (probably good idea for most people), I'd go for Ativan instead of xanax...fewer problems with anxiety inbetween doses and what not. If you'd prefer something longer-acting, Valium might be a good idea..librium and Klonopin are good, too. An antidepressant, possibly with some Buspar added (non-benzo anti-anxiety agent: OK for anxiety, but also helps reduce overall tension and can boost the effects of an antidepressant) might be good to take along with the benzo...something sedating, like remeron, might be good if you're also having trouble sleeping. I'd also recommend you try to get some counselling or talk-therapy or join a support group..dealing with your issues from a number of different angles will help you feel better, faster. Good luck!
