No, I don't get a sweet taste in my mouth, although at times I've had bitter tastes and metallic ones.
Nystatin kills yeast, especially if you refrain from eating sugars and refined carbohydrates.
Yes, he's an MD, runs a postgrad course in nutritional medicine for doctors and sees patients as well. It costs (of course) but I've learned a bit about what's good for me and some of it I can now do on my own.
As for the wasteland thing, it's everywhere now and I hope it doesn't get any worse. Survival of the fittest.
