You pose an interesting question.
As others on this thread have mentioned, there are several different ways of explaining why various questions here go unanswered. Like others here, I really don't think that it would be useful for me to respond to answer questions that I cannot answer. As much as I'd like to acknowledge each question with an "I don't know," the board would obviously get quite clogged up if everybody were to do that. At times, I just don't have the time and the energy to read very many posts (let alone respond to them), so sometimes I don't answer questions that I might otherwise answer. I've also found that debate-style threads often tend to get so time-consuming that I usually prefer to stay out of them unless I can offer something that would be extremely useful to the debate. Finally, sometimes questions are answered so well by others that I just think it would be repetitive to just say things that have already been said, but less effectively. For example, Sarah T.'s response to your post was so well-written and thorough that it was hard for me to think of too many more things to say.
