Gene therapy for anti-anxiety

In 2003 twelve patients with parkinson's disease were given a harmless strain of the herpes virus, which carried a precursor to GABA into the body. This causes higher levels of GABA in the brain for extended periods. In the 2005 follow up, scientists following the progress of the patients noted a 27% decrease in severe PD symptoms.
