It looks great on paper, and my organic chemist friend said the synthesis they give is trivial, i.e. just about anyone could do it with some brains, basic equipment, and the requisite chemicals. It is a better GABA-T inhibitor than either valproate or gamma-vinyl-gaba.
I highly doubt this will ever be developed into a drug. I spend a lot of time researching GABA-T inhibitors & natural GABAnerigcs. The drug gastrodin from gastrodia elata tuber extract is one of the best you might be able to get your hands on.
Vanillin (the flavoring) is a GABA-T inhibitor. Many, many things you would never expect are GABAnergic. Thymol, the anesthetic in listerine, has positive GABA(A) activity. Think about that, keeping in mind there is ethanol in there as well....anyone eat lots of cheap vanilla ice cream and then wash their mouth compulsively with listerine?
I think it would be just as effective and take less effort to get a script for a downer.
BTW I may be wrong, but phenelzine isn't a GABA-T inhibitor. PEH is a metabolite of PLZ, and thus that's why PLZ is said to have a GABAnergic effect.
