Though I'm not taking Nardil now, I saw my psychiatrist yesterday and will be going on EMSAM when it hits the drug stores hopefully within a few weeks.
If it wasn't approved, I was going to go to Nardil. My doc wanted to wait for the FDA decision first so I could try EMSAM and should it not work for me, go to Nardil.
He claims that it may be very good for social anxiety, my primary disorter. I'm currently taking klonopin which has helped greatly, but also need help with mood.
For what it's worth, my game plan is to get on the patch and continue to take both klonopin and Emsam for several months, then if I get a positive response from EMSAM, slowly get off klonopin, that I will either be on EMSAM alone or blend the two meds.
As far as how to switch from Naril to EMSAM, you need a savvy doctor to help you with that.
What I did find interesting was that my doctor told me that though I should not ignore totally the works food offenders for MAOI's, that he felt I wouldn't have any food problems and could pretty much eat anything. That the main things to watch were a few medicines such as those with epinefrin (I know it's mispelled) and a few others. He went on to say if a higher dose was needed say 30 or 40 mgs there probably wouldnt be food issues either. I know many carry a bail out pill with them that take other MAOI's incase of a crisis, but he said it would not be necessary with EMSAM.
Anyway, just some impute on EMSAM for what it's worth. I'm really looking forward to giving it a try for my SP and mild depression.
